Abundance Prayer: A Biblical Prayer for Prosperity and Abundance (Without Prosperity Gospel)

By The Solomon Wealth Code Editorial Team · Published · Updated · Reviewed for biblical and financial accuracy.

A Scripture-rooted abundance prayer — and five more — for the Christian who wants to pray for prosperity and abundance without sliding into prosperity gospel. Six full prayers (daily abundance, work and provision, family, generosity, breakthrough, gratitude), the Greek perisseuō behind John 10:10's 'abundantly,' Psalm 23's overflowing cup, and the difference between Philippians 4:19 abundance and the name-it-claim-it counterfeit.

"I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" — John 10:10. The Greek perissos means "beyond-what-is-needed, more-than-enough." Jesus offers abundant life. Christians have always prayed into it. The problem is that the prosperity gospel has hijacked the vocabulary of biblical abundance, leaving many faithful Christians afraid to pray any abundance prayer at all.

This guide gives you six full prayers (daily, work, family, generosity, breakthrough, gratitude) rooted in the Greek and Hebrew of Scripture's actual abundance texts — and a sharp boundary line between biblical abundance prayer and the prosperity-gospel counterfeit.

What biblical abundance actually is

  • Provision for need (Philippians 4:19) — "my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Need, not want. Riches measured in Christ, not in dollars.
  • Capacity for generosity (2 Corinthians 9:8) — "God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work." Abundance for the next person's need.
  • Contentment (Philippians 4:11-13) — Paul learned the secret of autarkeia "in any and every circumstance." The abundant life is independent of circumstance.
  • Work that bears fruit (Psalm 1:3, John 15) — the life rooted in God produces fruit in season. Abundance as karpos, not commodity.
  • Eternal inheritance (1 Peter 1:4) — the abundance that "is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you." The deepest abundance is not measured in years 0-80.

What biblical abundance is not

  • Not a luxury guarantee. The early apostles were martyred. Paul knew how to abound and how to be in want (Phil 4:12). Abundant life is not a 401(k) target.
  • Not a formula. Malachi 3:10 is a covenant promise to a covenant people, not a deposit-slip for the windows of heaven.
  • Not transactional. God is not a vending machine. Prayer-as-formula is paganism with Christian vocabulary.
  • Not decoupled from generosity. Every biblical overflow text terminates in giving. Abundance hoarded is the rich fool (Luke 12).
  • Not decoupled from suffering. John 16:33 — "in the world you will have tribulation." Abundant life and suffering coexist throughout the New Testament.

Prayer 1 — Daily abundance prayer

Father, you who own the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10), I come to you this morning as a steward, not as an owner. Thank you that you have promised to supply every need of mine according to your riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). I do not ask for luxury; I ask for daily bread (Matthew 6:11). I do not ask to be rich; I ask, with Agur, for neither poverty nor riches but the food that is needful for me (Proverbs 30:8). Make my cup overflow today (Psalm 23:5) — not so that I may hoard, but so that I may bless the next person you bring across my path. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer 2 — Prayer for prosperity and abundance at work

Lord, you placed Adam in the garden to work it and to keep it (Genesis 2:15). I come to my work today not as my own employer but as one working for you (Colossians 3:23). Prosper the work of my hands (Psalm 90:17). Give me the wisdom you gave Solomon, the diligence you commended in the ant (Proverbs 6:6-8), and the integrity you required of the steward (1 Corinthians 4:2). Where I have been negligent, sharpen me. Where I have been anxious, settle me. Where I have been ambitious for the wrong things, redirect me. Make my work fruitful in the way that you call fruit — fruit that lasts (John 15:16). In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer 3 — Abundance prayer for the family

Father of every family in heaven and on earth (Ephesians 3:15), I bring you my household. You commanded me to provide for them as a basic duty of faith (1 Timothy 5:8). I cannot do that without you. Make me a good steward of every paycheck, every meal, every conversation. Let our table be a place of plenty for the next guest you send. Let our budget be a place of giving first. Let our children see in our home that you are the Giver of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17). Bless us — not so that we may turn inward, but so that, blessed, we may be a blessing (Genesis 12:2). In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer 4 — Abundance prayer for generosity

Lord, you love a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). Make me one. You said that the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully (2 Corinthians 9:6). Give me a bountiful heart. Where I am clutching, loosen my grip. Where I am calculating, free me. Where I have given grudgingly, restore my joy. Make all grace abound to me, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, I may abound in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8). Multiply the seed I have to sow and increase the harvest of my righteousness (2 Corinthians 9:10) — for your glory and for the needs of the saints. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer 5 — Prayer for breakthrough into abundance

God of Jacob's wrestling and Jabez's prayer (1 Chronicles 4:10), I bring you the place where I am stuck. The barn is empty. The numbers do not add up. The doors I have knocked on have not opened. I confess fear, and I confess that I have sometimes looked to circumstances rather than to you. You are able to do far more abundantly than all I ask or think, according to the power at work within me (Ephesians 3:20). Open windows that I cannot open. Move mountains that I cannot move (Matthew 17:20). Provide what I cannot provide — not so that I may boast, but so that your name may be glorified in this household. And if breakthrough does not come on my timeline, give me the contentment of Paul (Philippians 4:11) and the patience of the farmer who waits for the early and late rains (James 5:7). In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer 6 — Prayer of gratitude for abundance already received

Father, every good and perfect gift comes down from you, the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change (James 1:17). I stop today and count what you have already given. Breath. Bread. Family. Forgiveness. The shed blood of Jesus. The sealing of the Spirit. The promise of eternal life. The roof over this house tonight. The food on this table. The work that came in this week. I had nothing when I came into the world, and I will take nothing out of it (1 Timothy 6:7); everything between those two moments is grace. Make me a person whose mouth is full of thanks (Psalm 71:8) and whose hands are full of generosity (2 Corinthians 9:8). In Jesus' name, Amen.
