Thirty prosperity scriptures across the Old and New Testament — Deuteronomy, Psalms, Proverbs, Jesus, Paul — organized by theme, with the honest context that separates biblical prosperity from name-it-and-claim-it.

"Prosperity scriptures" is a phrase that means radically different things depending on who's saying it.

For one Christian, it's a list of God's promises to provide.

For another, it's the scaffolding of a theology that confuses faith with a withdrawal slip.

This guide gives you the thirty most important prosperity scriptures from Genesis to Revelation — with the honest context that separates biblical prosperity from prosperity-gospel distortion.

What "prosperity" means in the Bible The Hebrew word most often translated prosper is tsalach — to advance, to succeed, to come through.

The Greek equivalent in 3 John 2 is euodoō , literally "to have a good journey." Neither word means "wealth." Both mean flourishing in what God has given you to do .

Money may follow.

It may not.

Joseph "prospered" in Potiphar's house as a slave (Genesis 39:2), and David "prospered" while running for his life (1 Samuel 18:14).

Hold that definition while you read the verses below.

Biblical prosperity is faithful flourishing under God's hand.

It is not a transaction in which sufficient faith plus sufficient seed equals a guaranteed financial harvest.

Old Testament prosperity scriptures (1–10) Genesis 39:2–3 — "The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man." Deuteronomy 8:18 — "It is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may confirm His covenant." Deuteronomy 28:1–14 — The blessing chapter.

Prosperity is covenant obedience, not formula.

Joshua 1:8 — "Meditate on it day and night… then you will make your way prosperous." 1 Chronicles 22:13 — "You will prosper if you are careful to observe the statutes." Job 36:11 — "If they obey and serve Him, they shall spend their days in prosperity." Psalm 1:3 — "Whatever he does, he prospers." (The man rooted in Scripture.) Psalm 35:27 — "The Lord… delights in the prosperity of His servant." Psalm 112:1–3 — "Wealth and riches will be in his house" — the upright generous person.

Proverbs 3:9–10 — "Honor the Lord with your wealth… then your barns will be filled." Wisdom literature (11–18) Proverbs 10:22 — "The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it." Proverbs 11:25 — "Whoever brings blessing will be enriched." Proverbs 13:11 — "Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it." Proverbs 22:4 — "Humility and the fear of the Lord bring riches and honor and life." Proverbs 28:25 — "Whoever trusts in the Lord will be enriched." Ecclesiastes 5:19 — "Everyone… to whom God has given wealth and possessions… this is the gift of God." Jeremiah 29:11 — "Plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." (Originally to exiles — not a personal-prosperity guarantee.) Malachi 3:10 — "Bring the whole tithe… see if I will not open the windows of heaven." New Testament prosperity scriptures (19–30) Matthew 6:33 — "Seek first the kingdom… and all these things will be added to you." Mark 10:29–30 — "A hundredfold now in this time… with persecutions." (Often quoted without the last clause.) Luke 6:38 — "Give, and it will be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together." John 10:10 — "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." (Zoē — life, not net worth.) 2 Corinthians 8:9 — "Though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich." 2 Corinthians 9:6–11 — "Whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully… God will supply and increase." Galatians 6:9 — "In due season we will reap, if we do not give up." Ephesians 3:20 — "Able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think." Philippians 4:19 — "My God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory." 1 Timothy 6:17–19 — "God… richly provides us with everything to enjoy" — paired with command to be generous.

Hebrews 13:5 — "Be content… for He has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'" 3 John 2 — "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper… as your soul prospers." How to read prosperity scriptures honestly Read the surrounding verses. 3 John 2 is a first-century letter greeting, not a financial guarantee.

Notice the conditions.

Most "prosperity" verses are conditioned on obedience, generosity, or covenant context.

Hold the costs.

Mark 10:30 promises a hundredfold "with persecutions." Jesus didn't sanitize the offer.

Check the genre.

Proverbs are general principles, not personal contracts.

Job and Ecclesiastes prove the principles aren't mechanical.

Center the giver.

Every promise of provision points to the character of God, not a technique to extract from Him.

God does prosper His people.

He prospers them with what they need to do what He's called them to do — which is sometimes wealth, often enough, and always Christ.
