"Prosperity scriptures" is a phrase often hijacked by the prosperity gospel. But the actual biblical texts on prosperity are richer, more sober. Far more practically useful than the version on Christian TV.
Hebrew tsalakh ("to succeed, prosper") and Greek euodoō ("to have a good journey, prosper") describe a comprehensive flourishing. Financial, relational, spiritual. Physical. That God grants those who walk in his ways.
This guide collects the genuine prosperity passages, explains the original language. Gives a framework for praying these promises without falling into prosperity-gospel error.

The Hebrew word: tsalakh
Hebrew tsalakh (צָלַח) — "to advance, succeed, prosper". Appears 65 times in the Old Testament. Its root meaning is to "rush forward" like water through a riverbed. Biblical prosperity is forward motion blessed by God. Not static accumulation.
Greek euodoō (εὐοδόω, "to have a good road, prosper") appears 4 times in the New Testament (Romans 1:10; 1 Corinthians 16:2; 3 John 1:2 twice). The image is the same: a journey that goes well... Because God grants safe passage.

- Generosity capacity — abounding in every good work (2 Cor 9:11).
- Wholeness — peace, health, soul-prosperity (3 John 1:2).
- Forward motion in calling — your "way" goes well (Joshua 1:8).
- Multi-generational fruit — a tree planted by water (Psalm 1:3).
- Joy without sorrow — Proverbs 10:22 — the blessing of the Lord, unlike striving wealth, comes without grief.
What biblical prosperity is NOT
Prosperity in the Bible is never: (1) guaranteed wealth in exchange for faith or giving, (2) consumer luxury as a sign of spirituality, (3) freedom from suffering — Paul prospered in soul while in prison, (4) measured by accumulation alone.
The prosperity gospel distorts these texts by promising health and wealth as transactions. The actual Bible promises God's presence, sufficiency. Capacity for kingdom impact. See Prosperity Gospel Debunked.
How to pray prosperity scriptures rightly
- Begin with surrender — "your kingdom come, your will be done."
- Confess that God owns everything (Psalm 24:1).
- Tithe first as the firstfruits posture (Prov 3:9).
- Ask specifically (Matthew 7:7-11) — name the need.
- Ask for capacity to be generous, not just to consume (2 Cor 9:11).
- Trust God's timing and method.
- Receive provision with thanksgiving and stewardship.
