Work was God's idea — before the fall Genesis 2:15 — "The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it." Genesis 1:28 — "Be fruitful and multiply… and have dominion." Exodus 20:9 — "Six days you shall labor, and do all your work." Psalm 104:23 — "Man goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening." God Himself worked six days and called it "very good." Work is part of how humans bear the image of a working God.
The curse in Genesis 3 added thorns and sweat — but it did not invent labor. 2.
